HERE IS The Lockheed XFV Salmon, a vertical and horizontal takeoff airplane. It was created to have the capability to land basically anywhere, but it was very tricky to land vertically because of power management and it had to have perfectly level ground. Pilots were scared of it, so it was scrapped.
